FPL Chip Strategy GW2: Should You Play Triple Captain or Bench Boost?

Chip outlook

Gameweek 2 is a poor chip week with no double gameweeks, making it premature to use any premium chips when better opportunities lie ahead.

Wildcard

Don't use it. With only one gameweek played, you haven't gathered enough data to warrant a full squad overhaul. Save your Wildcard for when fixtures turn, injuries accumulate, or your team structure fundamentally needs rebuilding around GW6-8. Your current squad has strong template picks like Haaland (68.4% ownership) and João Pedro (66.1% ownership), so there's no urgency to restructure.

Bench Boost

Avoid completely. Your bench returns just 10.3 combined expected points across Palmer (2.2xP), Beto (3.1xP), Reed (2.6xP), and Slater (2.4xP). A Bench Boost here would deliver minimal value—maybe 8-12 actual points. This chip is best saved for double gameweeks or weeks where you've deliberately built a strong bench with playing assets. In GW2, your bench fodder isn't worth activating.

Triple Captain

Hold for now. While Haaland against Crystal Palace looks decent (6.4xP), Triple Captain deserves a bigger stage—ideally a double gameweek or a fixture like Haaland vs. Luton/Sheffield. The difference between captaining and triple captaining Haaland this week is just 6.4 points in expectation. Given that 68.4% already own him, the differential gain is minimal. If you're desperate, Haaland is the only viable option, but patience will reward you with a 15+ point haul later in the season.

Free Hit

Don't consider it. Free Hit makes sense when your team can't field 11 players due to blank gameweeks, or when a specific gameweek offers exceptional one-week punts you can't normally afford. GW2 has standard fixtures with no blanks, and your team already features the key template players. Using Free Hit now wastes your ability to navigate tricky fixture swings or blank/double gameweek chaos later in the campaign. Verdict: Save all chips for GW2. Captain Haaland, bank your free transfer if possible, and wait for genuinely premium chip opportunities.
