FPL Chip Strategy GW3: Should You Play Triple Captain or Bench Boost?

Chip outlook

Gameweek 3 is a standard week with no double gameweeks or favorable fixture swings, making it a poor time to activate any premium chips.

Wildcard

Don't play it. With only two gameweeks gone, most managers won't have accumulated enough structural problems to justify burning the Wildcard this early, especially with no immediate fixture swings or price rises necessitating urgent action.

Bench Boost

Avoid completely. Your bench totals just 8.9 expected points across four players (Verbruggen 2.3, Reed 2.5, Slater 2.2, Walle Egeli 1.7), which would barely add value to your gameweek score and represents terrible chip efficiency compared to saving it for a double gameweek.

Triple Captain

Hold your horses. While Haaland (6.5 xP) is the obvious candidate with Crystal Palace away, his expected points don't justify using Triple Captain in a single gameweek when the chip historically performs best during double gameweeks where elite captains can return 40+ points. João Pedro (7.3 xP) actually has higher expected points this week but neither warrant the chip activation.

Free Hit

Not recommended. There's no fixture pile-up, blank gameweek, or mass unavailability issues that would make a Free Hit valuable—save this chip for genuine emergencies or blank/double gameweek optimization later in the season when it can provide 20-30 point swings.

Final Verdict

Keep all chips in your pocket for GW3. Your team looks structurally sound with heavy Arsenal and Man City coverage, plus the in-form João Pedro. The best strategy is patience—save Bench Boost and Triple Captain for confirmed double gameweeks later in the season, hold your Wildcard for when genuine team surgery is needed (typically around GW8-12), and reserve Free Hit for blank gameweeks. Play your regular captain (Haaland is the right choice despite average expected points) and bank your free transfer if possible to build flexibility for future gameweeks.
