FPL Multi-GW Planner: How to Mock-Draft Your Transfers and Chips
Every FPL manager plans transfers in their head. The Multi-GW Planner turns that into a rehearsal you can score: load your real squad, try a sequence of moves, and see the expected points before you lock anything in. Free: 3 gameweeks ahead. Premium: 6 gameweeks, with saved plans.

A mock draft is a no-stakes practice run. In American fantasy football it means rehearsing your picks before the actual draft. The Multi-GW Planner is the same idea for FPL transfers: you keep your real team untouched while you try out a plan and see how it scores.
The planner reads your FPL team ID or lets you build a 15-player squad from scratch. It then replays your planned transfers, chips, captaincies and formation changes gameweek by gameweek. At every step you see projected points, free transfers remaining, and any −4 hits you take. If the plan looks worse than expected, you can throw it away and start another one. Your real FPL team is never changed.
Loading your real FPL squad
The fastest way to start is to enter your FPL team ID. The planner fetches your current squad, formation, bank and bank adjustments for the upcoming gameweek and uses them as the starting point. It does not fetch your free-transfer count; you set that yourself with the picker in the loaded-team area. You can also start from an empty 15-player squad and build your own side.
Loading a real squad is not a Premium feature. Any visitor with an FPL team ID can use it. This makes the tool useful even if you are not subscribed, because the projected points and transfer decisions are based on your actual team rather than a generic squad.
Why plan several gameweeks ahead?
Most FPL decisions are made one week at a time, usually on a Friday. That works until a run of fixtures, a double gameweek, or a blank gameweek forces a sequence of moves. A two-gameweek plan lets you bring a player in this week and captain him next week. A five- or six-gameweek plan lets you time a chip, a wildcard, or a run of transfers without wasting free transfers.
The planner shows xP for each gameweek, so you can see whether a plan that looks good in week one falls apart by week four. You can also compare a conservative plan that saves transfers against an aggressive plan that takes hits and spends them on better fixtures.
Free transfers, banked transfers and −4 hits
The planner follows the same rules as FPL. You receive one free transfer per gameweek. If you do not use it, it banks. You can bank up to five free transfers; any unused transfers beyond that are lost. Banked free transfers survive chips, so you can enter a Wildcard or Free Hit week with a full bank.
Each transfer beyond your free allowance costs a −4 hit. The planner tracks these automatically. It also shows your free transfers remaining and any hits taken for every gameweek in the plan, so you can decide whether an extra transfer is worth the expected points it gains.
Planning chips across the horizon
You can place Wildcard, Free Hit, Bench Boost and Triple Captain in any gameweek in the plan. Wildcard and Free Hit let you make unlimited transfers for that gameweek without spending free transfers. Free Hit reverts your squad the following gameweek; Wildcard keeps the new squad. Bench Boost adds your bench xP to the gameweek total, and Triple Captain doubles the captain's xP. You can move the chips around and immediately see how xP changes.
This is where a multi-gameweek view matters. A Bench Boost in a double gameweek with strong bench fixtures scores more than the same chip in an ordinary week. A Wildcard two weeks before a blank gameweek can set up a squad that covers the blank without hits. Trying these scenarios without risk is the point of the planner.
Formation, captain and vice-captain
The planner lets you change formation each gameweek. It validates that your starting XI has the correct number of defenders, midfielders and forwards. You set a captain and vice-captain for every gameweek. The projected score doubles the captain's xP; it is a projection, not a real game, so the vice-captain is stored as your backup choice and does not automatically replace the captain in the xP total.
You can also set the bench order. In the official FPL game the bench order controls auto-substitutions, but the planner does not model those. The bench order is still useful for organizing your squad and becomes important on a Bench Boost chip, when every bench player's xP is added to the gameweek total.
How to read the expected points
Expected points, or xP, are projected FPL points for each player. The planner adds up the xP for your starting XI and captain each gameweek and shows the total. See the Expected Points guide for how the xP model works.
The xP is a forward-looking number. It does not guarantee a score, but it gives a common currency for comparing plans. A plan with a higher total xP is usually the better bet, especially when the difference comes from fixture runs or captain choices rather than from taking extra −4 hits.
Free vs Premium
Free users can plan up to 3 gameweeks ahead and use every planning feature except saving. Premium users can extend the horizon to 6 gameweeks and save up to 10 named plans. Both tiers can load a real FPL squad, set chips, and see projected points.
Nothing in the planner is submitted to FPL, so free users can experiment fully within the 3-gameweek window. When you are ready to subscribe, you can open the longer horizon and keep the plans you have built.
